What’s an SEO Audit?

An SEO audit is an evaluation of your website’s accessibility and ranking success. An SEO audit will include an an analysis of your site as it currently is, as well as recommendations for how to improve it and increase your ranking.

After an SEO audit, you will have a list of recommendations for ways to improve your website. This recommendations might include big things, such as suggested keywords, images that should be tagged, a list of broken links, and the length of your content. It will also include some of the smaller details, such as whether every title tag is between 50-70 characters, and if the URLs have customized slugs (ex: www.insivia.com/3453jkfi4 is bad, but www.insivia.com/what-is-an-seo-audit is great).

How to Audit Your Site

If you’re looking to audit your site, you have three options

Although this option won’t cost you any money, per se, it will take a lot of time if you want to do it right. A full audit could take you up to 50 hours, and not all of us have that kind of time.
  • Run some software. Another option is to submit your URL and Google Analytics information to a website, which will then run the audit for you. Many of these are free and easy to use, but it may not be as specific to your site as if a person were to conduct it because it looks for the same indicators on all websites, regardless of their purpose.
  • Hire a professional. Your final option is to hire a professional to conduct your audit. This option will cost you, but if you’re struggling to get the traffic you want, it may be worth it. It’s a good option because you won’t have to spend hours on it, and you’ll get personalized recommendations for improvement.
