Hey everyone, Rick Scheeser here and today I’m here to talk to you about site maps. With the evolution of Google and how fast they can scan and analyze websites on the web we get a lot of questions if it’s still valuable to submit your site map to Google’s webmaster tools. I’m here to tell you that it definitely can’t hurt you and it still a best practice that you want to keep in mind. It’s still something that we do here on every single website we create. For those of you that don’t know a site map is more or less a road map to your website telling Google or other search engines such as Bing and Yahoo exactly the way that your website is laid out and exactly how to index this content. Another main advantage that you’re going to get from submitting your site next to the search engines is having them know different sections on your site where you’re going to continually populate different types of content. Whether it be articles or videos so let’s just say you submit an XML sitemap to Google’s webmaster tools. Google now knows where your articles or blog is found or where your video section is found within your site so it knows how to display those within their Google news categories as well as their Google video pages so it just gives you an overall advantage and helps the search engines know exactly where the content is within your web site.
